The world fractured
Without warning, our reality tore. Across our world, and across countless others, rifts began to appear: unnatural openings in the fabric of existence, shimmering with an energy that answers to none of the old laws. They spread without pattern or origin, and where they opened, realms once sealed inside their own truths started to bleed into one another.
The rules that hold our world together turned fluid. The boundaries that once decided what could and could not exist dissolved. Through the rifts came wonders. Through them came shadows, too: things that wander lost, and things that arrive with purpose. In our own world, almost no one knows any of this is happening.
The Collector and the Rift Interface Unit
The truth has been kept quiet by those who mean to profit from it, whatever the cost to ordinary people living ordinary lives. Among the few who have seen clearly, one name surfaces only in whispers: the Collector. Working from rare insight and stranger technology, this figure has begun to study the energy that flows from the riftways and bend it toward use.
Harnessed, that energy powers the Rift Interface Unit, the RIU: the device every Riftwalker carries, and the thread that ties them back to the Collector across impossible distance.
Who the Riftwalkers are
Now a small number of people cross the rift on purpose. Not as soldiers. Not as saviors. As Riftwalkers: explorers drawn into a multiverse knocked out of order. They travel to distorted realms, witness worlds colliding, and decide for themselves where to step in, where to repair, and where to simply observe.
Every realm holds its own story. Every rift opens a door to something new, and something forgotten. Somewhere in the spaces between, the reason the Veil tore at all is still waiting to be uncovered.
